Newsletter - Fall 2010

Greetings PMK Parents,

Don’t you just love the beginning of the marching band season? It is so exciting to see and hear the preview of the show that the kids shared with us on Saturday at Day of Knights. It is always amazing to see all that they accomplish during band camp. Bravo to our kids but also to Mr. Barnum and his talented staff. We are so grateful for your hard work and dedication.

We would like to recap the information shared with you on Saturday and to include some of the websites that might be beneficial to you as the season progresses.

Spectator behavior at competitions

  • no texting of results to your children.  The entire band should hear the results together
  • be careful what you say out loud in the stands when watching other performances…you never know who is around you
  • clap when you see or hear something that you like regardless of whose band it is!!

Chaperones

  • we are still in need of chaperones for all trips
  • all chaperone trips are free of charge except for our Atlanta BOA trip.  Chaperones are asked to pay $300 (a 50% discount) for this 4 day trip
  • anyone who is interested or able to chaperone should contact Annette Moore at anetski61@aol.com

Transportation

  • 2 drivers to Atlanta BOA are still needed.  The cost of this trip is covered by our budget
  • anyone willing to drive this trip should contact Jeff Nellessen at cherry.nellessen@avon.com or 847-255-8004

Bands of America (BOA)/Atlanta

  • anyone traveling to Atlanta will need to make their own reservations for accommodations.  It is recommended that parents NOT stay at the same hotel as the students.
  • You can find area hotels near the Georgia Dome simply by googling the Georgia Dome Hotels
  • An informational bulletin board will soon be posted to the website so that you can see where other band families are staying

Spiritwear

  • If you ordered spiritwear and have not yet picked it up, please contact Katy Kowalczyk at libra456@sbcglobal.net to set up a pickup time
  • All new families  (and anyone without a previous KOC shirt) - Please be sure to contact Katy (see above) to get your order in for your KOC volunteer shirt - ASAP please

KOC (Knight of Champions)

  • Volunteers are still needed for many areas
  • Please contact Maggie Hayes, mmhayes@wideopenwest.com to see which areas have needs.  If we don’t have you on a list, you will be contacted soon!

Finally, our next Booster Meeting will be help Tuesday, September 7 at 7:30 in the band room.  This is change from the original schedule!

Sincerely,

Lisa and Nancy
